TARTAN COUNSELING

Tartan Counseling helps people make sense of their lives, live with intention, and move forward with courage — by weaving together their experiences, values, faith, and relationships into a life that feels whole.

I provide therapy for adolescents and adults, including support for:

  • Anxiety and chronic overthinking

  • ADHD in teens and adults

  • Depression and low motivation

  • Stress, burnout, and overwhelm

  • Life transitions and identity questions

  • Relationship and family concerns

  • Grief and loss

  • Faith and meaning concerns

MY APPROACH

My work is values-based and influenced by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). In simple terms, that means helping you learn how to handle anxiety, ADHD, and difficult thoughts without letting them run your life — and supporting you in taking intentional steps toward what matters most to you.

Rather than spending all your energy arguing with your mind or waiting to “feel better” before living your life, I focus on helping you:

  • understand how thoughts, emotions, and attention really work

  • loosen the grip of anxiety, self-doubt, and overwhelm

  • build skills for focus, emotional regulation, and follow-through

  • clarify what matters most to you

  • take small, realistic steps toward the life you want

Progress doesn’t come from forcing yourself to feel different. It comes from learning how to respond differently.

ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Andy Jack.

I’m proud of my Scottish roots and have always had a soft spot for plaid — so Tartan Counseling was never far from my mind. I don’t currently own a kilt, but I do believe a good pattern — and a strong thread — can hold a lot together. That idea turns out to be a pretty solid metaphor for therapy.

Before opening Tartan Counseling, I spent 25+ years working with teens and families in schools, churches, nonprofit organizations, group practices, and healthcare settings — supporting people through everything from everyday stress to major life changes. What I kept noticing was this: people don’t need to be “fixed.” They need clarity, practical tools, and support to move forward in a way that actually fits who they are.

Outside the therapy room, I’m a lifelong Chicago suburban kid and a Gen Xer raised on new wave and post-punk music, teen angst movies, and the belief that a great soundtrack can make almost anything better. I’m a Chicago sports fan by birth, a Star Wars fan who still appreciates a good hero’s journey, and a Disney enthusiast who cares deeply about both the magic and the storytelling, and in my free time I can often be found tracking down vinyl albums — because some things are better when you slow down and listen. Most importantly, my wife and I are parents of two amazing daughters, which keeps me grounded, humble, and laughing more than we probably deserve.

In my work, I bring warmth, honesty, humor, and real-world perspective. Therapy doesn’t have to feel stiff or overly clinical. My goal is for you to feel understood — and supported as you move forward with intention.
